There’s a lot on the horizon in this area, so stay tuned! Our current support is going to the following partnership…
The goal
To inspire and empower the Virgin Gorda community to significantly reduce the population of mosquitoes that spread Zika, dengue, and other vector-borne diseases.
About the project
We are proud supporters of BugOut BVI, a community-driven, privately-funded nonprofit initiative for conducting integrated vector control efforts on the Island of Virgin Gorda within the BVI. BugOut is managed by a steering committee comprised of government, citizens, business leaders, community organizations, and international experts. BugOut relies on two program areas - a new hybrid community vector control officer program (“VCO program”) and community engagement and activation, which uses a mix of programs to improve the attitudes and knowledge of Virgin Gorda residents relating to their role in the control of Aedes mosquitoes island-wide.
BugOut includes a range of efforts , education, and a new precinct system to distribute, share, implement, monitor, and advance vector control efforts against the Aedes aegypti (vector for Zika, dengue, and other diseases).
Bug Out encourages our community to follow the three C’s:
-
Cover up - protect yourself from mosquitoes;
-
Clean up - remove any container in and around your home - mosquitoes can lay up to 100 eggs in a small bottle cap!
-
Communicate - share the news with your neighbors;
